Happy National Dental Hygiene Month!

Talk to Angela or Nick about the best brushing productsIt's an old joke but a true one -- you only need to brush the teeth you want to keep. Here at our McMinnville dental practice, we believe in team efforts. We're on your side by helping educate you on how, together, we can help keep your teeth healthy.  So in honor of National Dental Hygiene Month, we are revisiting the daily habits you can use to ensure that happens. 1. Brush for 2 Minutes / 2 Times/day Brushing your teeth for two minutes, two times a day is the single most important thing you can do to keep plaque from building up on your teeth and leading to decay. It also keeps gum disease at bay. 2. Floss Daily Flossing removes the debris that accumulates between teeth, where the toothbrush often can't reach. But it remains the step of the tooth cleaning process people often skip. Even if you hate flossing, there are a lot of products on the market to help make the process easier and more enjoyable for you. We know. It's hard. Next time you come in for your cleaning, talk to Angela or Nick about what you can do to make flossing a part of your life. 3. Rinse with Mouthwash Brushing and flossing are great -- but imagine your teeth and gums only take up half of your mouth. If you really want to deter bacteria in your mouth, it is a great habit to end your nightly brushing routine with a quick swish of some mouthwash. There are tons of mouthwashes on the market, so again, talk to your dental hygienist about which one is right for YOUR mouth. Oral health really is something to celebrate, so if your routine is working for you, your whole mouth will know. If not, February is a great time of year to make some changes and do them long enough so they stick.
